Brainwave Independence Group Charity

'Supporting and Promoting hidden Disabilities’

We started as a small group of people, recognizing that all around us was vulnerable adults being neglected, isolated, and sometimes abused, Due to the lack of knowledge, misdiagnosis or people being unable to speak up for themselves.

These people are at high risk in being able to access the community, while their disabilities are not visible.

Our mental heath system/healthcare professional continues to fail through inaccurate assessment of care and support needs.

As we are growing, we are coming across more people that need a bit of help and/or support.

Sole carer’s, loved ones are exhausted in having no respite and putting themselves at risk, through no fault of their own.

While our charity is growing, we currently fund:

  • Trained support staff
  • Woodwork/craft shop
  • Placements at varied day/activity centers that are stimulating. And age appropriate to improve low self-esteem and self worth.
  • Healthcare services like chiropody, dentists
  • Arrange meaningful days out
  • Purchase items that are specific to needs to improve a person’s lifestyle.

Currently we raise funds by holding various events throughout the year like:

  • Annual fun day
  • Coffee mornings
  • Sponsored Bike Rides
  • Parachute jumps
  • Bag packing at local supermarkets
  • Xmas day swim

Our voluntary workers work hard, selling unwanted items on Facebook & in our shop, that have been kindly been donated by our community.

We have a team of people dedicated to continue the smooth running of our charity shop that was opened this year.

Our B.I.G. shop provides stimulating placements, which in turn gives people the opportunity a feeling of self worth.

The Future

Going forward, we have a team of professional skilled people Working in the background, to achieve our target/goal in opening “The Point” which is our community hub to offer varied workshops/therapeutic activities.

Initially we are planning to open on a five day weekly basis, our ultimate goal will be to open “The Point” seven days a week, all year round.

We recognise that people have needs on a daily basis & should be allowed to have access to services they require on a daily basis. We wholly support/promote independence, by focusing on peoples abilities and not their disabilities, will help improve: low self esteem, self confidence & have a meaningful purpose to get up each day.

Our first craft shop was up and running from the garages in Tracey’s home.

Currently we support people that are productive in making various items from wood, they help with delivering items that have been sold, have support to help in the shop & bank monies that have been raised.

We donate items to people that are less fortunate but certain items make a real difference to their lives.
